Full Session Photoshoot Experience

The reason I set up Frank & Bloom was because I noticed that girls within the families I photographed were often the ones who struggled the most in front of the camera. Girls would say that their biggest fear was about feeling awkward or how to look or pose. That they had practiced some poses but didn’t know what to do with their arms, hands or legs.

First and foremost a photoshoot experience is about relaxing and having fun and because I plan my photoshoots so much, all a girl needs to do is turn up and enjoy herself. For the purposes of photographic composition, at times I will of course position my subject in relation to their environment, however I spend time chatting and having fun to capture the spontaneous moments I am looking for. If a girl is involved in an activity they love, then of course those shots come even more naturally.

Girls have up to two outfit changes in a full session and there is a handy pop up changing tent to use. I don’t dictate on what girls should wear, how their hair is styled or whether they wear makeup. If the girl is left to decide, it can create authentic and expressive images of who they are today (given that at certain ages these aspects form a part of the outward expression of their identities). That said some girls have no opinions on it at all or the parent makes the decision and so literally anything goes as far as I am concerned. I leave it up to the parents and the girls to decide but do provide key advice about what not to wear e.g. clothes with logos on.

A Frank & Bloom photography experience can be for groups of girls too and is a great way to share the cost of a photoshoot. For individual photoshoots, you are more than welcome to invite her friends along for a few, fun group images at the end for free. If you want a few family shots at the end then just ask, and if she has a pet that she has a special bond with, bring them along too. I love animals!

Step-By-Step Guide To Your Full Session Photoshoot Experience

Before you book, let’s chat! A quick initial phone call is the best way to get to know each other and go over any pre-booking questions.

1. Booking Your Session

We will provisionally reserve a day and time for you that can be easily confirmed by:

  • Paying your session fee
  • Filling out and signing the booking proposal
  • Returning your girls online “Frankly me” questionnaire

2. Pre-Session Consultation

A pre-session consultation is scheduled two to three weeks before your session. This gives us a chance to get to know each other, discuss the girl’s questionnaire and personality, suitable locations and timing for the photoshoot experience and what to prepare for the day. Girls can of course be involved in the consultation.

A helpful email is sent to you two to three days before your session reminding you of what we discussed along with tips to help the session run smoothly.

3. Mood Board

Shortly after your pre-session consultation I will send you an online mood board, full of ideas for your photoshoot. Everything on the mood board – colours, location and props (if any) are personalised to your child’s character.

You and your girl/s also have the option to send your own ideas and inspiration to me for the shoot as well.

My sessions are casual and relaxed, definitely not rushed. The focus is all about character and having fun and because of this a huge pressure is lifted from the girls to be anything but themselves. During the shoot I will combine gently posed shots along with capturing spontaneous, unguarded moments as they unfold — no forced smiles or awkward poses here. I also keep to the goals we agreed on during our pre-session consultation.

Box Icon 5. Perfecting Your Images

5. Perfecting Your Images

Each one of your images are individually edited, perfecting them by enhancing light and colour and sharpening details.

Every image I edit for you must have the wow factor. I imagine every image, blown up, on your wall and it must have impact. I edit for quality and take as much time as it needs to get the very best result from each shot. Your images will take approximately four weeks to be completed, so access to your online gallery is scheduled three to four weeks after your photoshoot.

Box Icon 6. Online Viewing Gallery

6. Online Viewing Gallery

This is your opportunity to go through the images one-by-one on a private online viewing gallery and select your favourites. You may just want to buy the digital images, but we can also work together to decide which images are best for statement pieces like larger canvases or prints, and those that will work best in albums and other products.

With your consent, your girl/s also have the option to be featured on the Frank & Bloom ‘The Girls’ page.
